KCH "Growing the Vine" Campaign Needs Your Support

Kalamazoo Collective Housing (KCH) is at an exciting time in its history! What started six years ago as a grassroots effort to plan a democratically-controlled cooperative housing organization in Kalamazoo has grown into a nationally-recognized solution that seeks a united community on all fronts.

KCH recently purchased three new properties (6 units) in the Vine Neighborhood area. These are the first properties KCH owns outright and they will contribute greatly toward our long term success. We’ll spend the summer renovating these buildings, focusing on safety improvements and energy efficiency with the goal of opening six new affordable, single-family units by mid-October.

We at KCH are passionate about developing neighborhood leaders, fostering democratic participation and building community. Our current members at the Fletcher and Meristem Cooperatives remain active working in partnership with more than a dozen local housing, neighborhood and health-related organizations to educate our community on a number of environmental and discriminatory issues. Above all else, KCH stands for fairness and empowerment.

What makes us especially unique is that our members govern the organization, something no other local affordable housing provider can say. In the words of former KCH Board President and Fletcher alumna Nicki Hurley “My top reason for moving in was that it was designed for low-income people to receive sustainable housing. Since I was legally homeless for four years as a teenager KCH struck a nerve with me. I appreciate all the skills I learned. We sustained ourselves on our strengths and each of us took the lead on tasks that we had the most comfort with.” (For Nicki's full testominal please click here)

Support from community members helps us serve a more diverse membership, ensuring our houses are as sustainable, accessible and green as possible. We ask that you consider a tax-deductible gift to Kalamazoo Collective Housing’s Growing the Vine Campaign at a level that makes you proud to support our endeavors.

Your generosity allows KCH to thrive and flourish as a shining model for cooperative development. Thank you for your consideration, your support is greatly appreciated!

In Cooperation,

The Kalamazoo Collective Housing Board of Directors
